Jodhpur team

Background

Jodhpur, with a population of 1,033,918 is the second largest city in Rajasthan. Rajasthan today accounts for 36 percent of the blood shortage in India, consequently, it is an area that requires the urgent attention of voluntary blood donation organizations. Recognizing this, BloodConnect approached Prakhar Bhardwaj, a IVth year student of NLU Jodhpur to setup a core team in Jodhpur. The core team currently consists of Aishwarya Rao, Rakesh Karela and Prakhar Bhardwaj. The Jodhpur team was also fortunate to have had a enthusiastic set of volunteers, consisting mainly of I years and III years from NLU Jodhpur.

Activities

On 4th August, 2013 the Jodhpur team organized a blood donation camp in NLU Jodhpur in collaboration with the Umaid Hospital. The camp was a success, with collection crossing the 100 mark – the publicity materials and the vivacity of our volunteers created a buzz on campus and the Jodhpur chapter received a lot of requests to join the organization and work for the cause.
On 11th September, 2013 the Jodhpur team collaborated with the students of NIFT and MGM Hospital to host a Blood Donation Camp. Due to tireless efforts of the student volunteers from NIFT we were able to get 75 donations out of a total student population of 175.

The way forward

The Jodhpur team hopes to consolidate its team members and volunteers and build upon the start that the team has been blessed with. In the coming year we aim to host more camps, setup a formal team structure, become financially independent and establish the helpline service. Based in a city whose population is largely illiterate, outreach programs to rural parts of Rajasthan are also part of our long term goals.
